What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia trachomatis is the main cause of a bacterial sexually transmitted disease. This bacterium affects both men and women. The infection can be contracted through anal, vaginal, or oral sex.
This infection is of great importance in women, since this bacterium can cause severe damage to the female reproductive system, which makes it difficult to find and develop a pregnancy.
Like other sexually transmitted diseases, this one may not present any symptoms, however, sometimes symptoms can occur in women such as vaginal discharge and painful urination. In men, discharge from the penis, painful urination, and testicular pain and swelling can also be found.
