What is gonorrhea?

The gonorrhea is a disease of sexual transmissionl caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which affects both men as well as women. Like other STDs, it is transmitted during sexual intercourse.

In many cases, you can have the infection and no symptoms, however, it may occur vaginal discharge, painful urination, bleeding between periods, and abdominal or pelvic pain in women. In the case of men symptoms may include painful urination, pus-like discharge from the urethra and testicular pain and swelling.

At occasions the bacteria can affect other areas of the body as rectum, eyes, throat and joints.

Process for performing the study

You only have to contact us to schedule an appointment one day in advance, we recommend you to have 3 days of sexual abstinence and previous washing with neutral soap. We perform the detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from samples obtained through urethral and cervicovaginal exudate.

Do not use vaginal suppositories, creams, or douches for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not use topical medications on the area to be examined for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not have sex for 72 hours before taking the medication.
Do not perform aggressive intimate hygiene on the day of the test.
For men, it is recommended not to urinate for at least 2 hours before the urethral swab.
If you are taking antibiotics, wait at least 7 days after finishing the course before providing the sample.
