The bacteria Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) is a species recently identified as a cause of sexually transmitted infections, and it is of particular concern due to its resistance to certain antimicrobials. The CDC notes that it is a a sexually transmitted disease that is more common than gonorrhea and chlamydia, however, its diagnosis is complicated.
In women, symptoms include dysuria, pelvic pain, inflamed bladder, urethritis, vaginal discharge, bleeding, among others.
In the case of men, the following may occur testicular pain, prostatitis, urethritis, urethral discharge and infertility.

Do not use vaginal suppositories, creams, or douches for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not use topical medications on the area to be examined for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not have sex for 72 hours before taking the medication.
Do not perform aggressive intimate hygiene on the day of the test.
For men, it is recommended not to urinate for at least 2 hours before the urethral swab.
If you are taking antibiotics, wait at least 7 days after finishing the course before providing the sample.
