What is gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which affects both men and women. Like other STDs, this one is transmitted during sexual intercourse.
On many occasions you can have the infection and not present symptoms, however, vaginal discharge, painful urination, bleeding between periods and abdominal or pelvic pain in women can occur. In the case of men, symptoms such as painful urination, pus-like discharge from the urethra, and testicular pain and swelling may occur.
Sometimes the bacteria can affect other areas of the body such as the rectum, eyes, throat and joints.
