Herpes simplex virus infection, commonly referred to as herpes, can be caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) or herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). HSV-1 is transmitted mainly by mouth-to-mouth contact and causes infections in or around the mouth (cold sores). However, HSV-1 can also be transmitted to the genital area by oral-genital contact and cause genital herpes. HSV-2 is transmitted almost exclusively by genital contact during sexual intercourse and causes infections in the genital or anal area (genital herpes).<\/p>

Both labial and genital herpes infections are usually asymptomatic or go unnoticed, but may cause symptoms, such as vesicles or painful ulcers at the site of infection, which can range from mild to severe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Herpes simplex virus 1 infection is a common disease. The virus enters the host through mucous membranes (typically saliva) or skin lesions, where it can cause cold sores, however, it can also cause genital herpes via oral-genital contact.<\/p>

The infection is usually asymptomatic, so most people with the infection are unable to notice it. When symptoms occur, lesions may be seen in and around the mouth, which previously produce a burning or tingling sensation. After the first infection, lesions may recur periodically, with the frequency varying between individuals. Genital herpes is characterized by genital or anal vesicles or ulcers.<\/p>

The virus is highly contagious when sores are present; for this reason, people with active herpes symptoms should avoid oral contact with others and avoid sharing items that have come into contact with the saliva of a person with herpes.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

VHS-2 is primarily transmitted during sexual intercourse, when there is contact between the genitals, skin, or bodily fluids of a person infected with herpes. Transmission often occurs even when there are no symptoms.<\/p>

Although it is rare, the virus can be transmitted from the mother to the newborn during childbirth and cause neonatal herpes.<\/p>

Genital herpes infection is usually asymptomatic, or symptoms are mild. When symptoms do occur, the viral infection is characterized by the presence of blisters or sores on the genitals and in the anal region, which may be accompanied by fever, pain, and swollen lymph nodes.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Do not use vaginal suppositories, creams, or douches for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not use topical medications on the area to be examined for at least 24 hours beforehand.
Do not have sex for 72 hours before taking the medication.
Do not perform aggressive intimate hygiene on the day of the test.
For men, it is recommended not to urinate for at least 2 hours before the urethral swab.
If you are taking antibiotics, wait at least 7 days after finishing the course before providing the sample.<\/p>
